The adventure of leaving Tulum

Zoë Hart thinking about all the wonders she’s experienced in Tulum as she experiences her final moment in the hallway outside of her bedroom.

Today I decided to wake up and write in my journal outside next to our heated pool. I’m not sure why this never crossed my mind before this moment. The warm weather, the sound of the waterfalls, and the beauty of the earth at sunrise were more than anyone could ask for.

I had layers of emotions as I woke up on my last day. I knew I would remember this trip forever and didn’t want it to transition into a distant memory too soon. I wanted to savor every moment of the last few hours I had today to ensure that I didn’t rush through anything.

After I finished writing outside and helping those leaving before we exit our compound, I packed up all my things. I wanted to ensure that I finished early so I could make space for the hustle and bustle of others in the home. By default, I always volunteer to do things earlier than others to make it easier for everyone.

Soon after, everyone packed early with ample time to spare as we awaited our driver. So, we decided to have one last celebration before going to the airport. We opened bottles of champagne and toasted to our grand adventures with our mimosas (without orange juice). I had never laughed so hard or had so much fun before heading on a plane. This was a first for me, for sure.

I realized that I no longer needed to compromise. Each of us has our realm of possibility, and our lives reflect those choices. When I said I wanted to be a Doctor, most didn’t believe in me. When I decided to buy my first house at 23, people asked how I could do that without a male co-signer. When I started EnrichHER, people wondered how I could help anyone with my background. Well, I’ve always known that I could do anything with my career and education, and based on this trip, I fully believe that I can also live fully in the opulence I deserve.

Miracles and Wonders

  • My lost cell phone was recovered in Tulum

  • Delta Airlines upgrades me to first class on my way home

  • I finally received enough real-world evidence that I’m worthy of my dreams

  • I experienced no wait time getting picked up by my Uber, a sexy black Tesla, from the international terminal. So I was home less than. 1 hour after landing.

  • I was able to complete my workout after my flight home

I contemplated a lot over the last two days about how everyone who attended the trip was on the same frequency. Everyone was nice and gave tons of positive affirmations to everyone. But, most shockingly, I had more stuff than everyone. We all had carry-on only. But I had my carry-on and a full-size bag that goes underneath the seat. The rest had a purse or a small pouch for their second bag and traveled much lighter than I did. In my entire life, this has never happened before. This was another sign that we were all on the same frequency.

I noticed that I couldn’t find my cell phone on the way to the airport. I am the kind of person who never loses anything, so I told myself that this was the result of allowing myself to have those champagne toasts. But, to my surprise, our driver pulled to the side of the road, asked me where I had left my phone and its color, and made a call. During this time, the other passengers recommended that it would be shipped later or my insurance would cover it being lost. For whatever reason, I wasn’t worried. I was sad that I was the cause of a delay in a trip, something that I had yet to experience in my entire life. About 30 minutes later, a car pulled up, and handed my phone to the driver, and I was back in business. How the Universe aligned to get me back my phone this way was a wonder for sure. After all that, everything worked out for me. We weren’t delayed, we had a good conversation, and everything was settled. This made me feel that I could let things fall apart and trust the Universe would ensure that things are back on track.

Next, we were back on the road, this time a little faster than before. We had an adventure of stories on the way to the airport and dropped the first set of travelers at terminal 4 before we arrived at terminal 3. Today was one of those fantastic days where even the delay seemed to have a purpose.

We arrived at the airport with ample time to have lunch before our flight. Our flight was easy and on time, and while the flight ran out of alcohol and snacks on the previous flight, I took that as a sign to get back to my regular fitness routine.

Upon landing, we were first to get off the flight, and with my Global Entry, the flight attendants and I were through customs in a breeze. My uber was curbside as soon as I exited the terminal, and I was directly on my way home.

When I arrived home, I promised myself I wouldn’t get distracted, so my entire mode of operation was limited to checking my mail, running three miles, and taking a bubble bath. The random stuff could commence after but not before. I noticed that sticking to a plan helped reduce my anxiety and helped me let go.

That night, I fell asleep quickly and deeply, proud of all the progress that I had made.
